Precautions

Precautions with acupuncture : Acupuncture is one of the therapeutic methods in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with a history of several thousand years.bit includes acupuncture needling, moxibustion, cupping, massage, electro-acupuncture, ear acupuncture and acupressure.

To assure a safe and relaxing experience with acupuncture treatment, certain precautions should be aware of in order to reduce the risk of side effects.

• Describe your condition, the medication you take and other problems in detail to your acupuncturist, so that they can create a proper diagnosis and administer the right treatment.
• Notify the practitioner of any discomforts, pain felt or any other problems that need to be dealt with.
• On the day of acupuncture treatment, it is best to have a light meal one hour prior to the treatment. Being overeats or over-hungry will increase the risk of nausea or fainting.
• You should see the doctor open up a fresh packet of acupuncture needles every time in front of you for safety reasons.
• Avoid alcohol, heavy physical work or strenuous exercises. Physical strain immediately before or after acupuncture can weaken your body.
• Wearing loose, warm and comfortable clothing that will be easily rolled up to elbows or knees. Most commonly used acupoints are located at limbs.
• If you do not describe all the details of your problems and the medications that you take, the doctor may administer the wrong medications for the wrong body parts that could harm you further or interact with your medications in a deadly way.
• At the end of the treatment make sure to discuss the treatment performed, any side effects and the plan of action for your next appointment.
